Jobseekers Allowance Claimant Rates (August 2012)

15 August 2012

Hi all,

The latest Jobseekers Allowance Claimant rates for July 2012 are now available on the site in the Jobs & Prosperity section, here are some of the headline findings from the new release:

Jobseekers allowance claimant counts have increased in most Greater Manchester authorities this month.

The claimant rate in Rochdale Borough has remained at 5.8% despite the number of claimants increasing slightly from 7,627 in June to 7,637 in July (an increase of 10 claimants).

Rochdale and Oldham are now the authorities with the highest proportion of claimants in Greater Manchester (Oldham witnessed a 0.2 percentage point increase in claimant rate this month). The gap between Rochdale and Oldham and Manchester, who have the third highest rate, is 0.2 percentage points.

Youth unemployment increased slightly in the borough in July to 2,360 (from 2,335 in June), representing 9.6% of the population age group. The vast majority of this number is made up of people aged 18-24 with only 5 people below the age of 18 claiming JSA in Rochdale Borough. Despite this increase the number of Long term youth claimants (those claiming for six months or more) decreased again to 985 claimants (from 1,005 in June).

The number of JSA claimants per live unfilled Jobcentre Plus vacancy has seen an increase from 3.9 in June to 4.4 in July mostly due to a small decline in the number of job vacancies in the borough (from 1,963 in June to 1,744 in July). A breakdown of the available vacancies in the borough show that of the 1,744 vacant posts in July 1,363 are full-time vacancies compared to 381 which are part time.
